About this symbol
This symbol denoted that the plastic is made from Low-density Polyethylene (LDPE).
The symbol was adapted from the universally recognised symbol for recycling “The Mobius Loop” by The American Society of Plastic Industry in 1988, to provide a recognisable and easily understood coding system that could be applied to plastic items.
The numbers within the symbol refer to the type of plastic resin content of the item (in this case, 4 indicated Low-density polyethylene).
Whilst the symbol is based on the Mobius Loop, it doesn’t automatically mean that it can be recycled, this depends on your local authority recycling facilities.
In this case, Low-density polyethylene (LDPE) is not widely recyclable within the UK, however the number of facilities is increasing. Please check with your local authority/nearest recycling centre.
